EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 31, 2025) – Looking to bounce back from a tough defeat at Merrimack, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball takes on Siena for the second game of their road trip.
MOUNT UPDATE
- The Mountaineers suffered their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) defeat, falling to Merrimack by a 60-56 final on December 29. The Warriors rallied from 15 down in the second half to stun the Mount.
- Gabrielle Kennerly finished with 18 points, followed by 11 from Berlynn Carlson.
- Erin Edmonds made her first career start and impressed, finishing with career highs of nine points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. The freshman increased her scoring average to 4.3 points per game.
- Mount fell in the Merrimack game despite outscoring the Warriors percentage wise. The difference was in rebounding, which Merrimack won 48-42 thanks to 19 offensive boards, and the turnover battle, also won by the Warriors.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
- Siena swept the Buffalo teams of Canisius and Niagara to earn a 2-0 start in league play. They defeated the Purple Eagles 107-69 and the Golden Griffins 73-56.
- The Saints are fourth in scoring despite ranking seventh in field goal percentage and ninth in three-point percentage. The difference is made up in forcing the opponent's hand as the Saints are first in steals and second in turnover margin in the MAAC.
- Francesca Schiro has been the breakout star for Siena. The freshman leads first-year MAAC players with 16.3 points per game. Fellow freshman Kaiya Rain Tucker is the leading rebounder with 63 boards, or 5.7 per game.
THE MAAC PICTURE
- Siena holds third place in the MAAC for the early going while Mount St. Mary's stands in fourth.
- Fairfield and Quinnipiac join Siena as the two remaining undefeated teams in the league. Both the Stags and Bobcats enjoy a 3-0 start.
ALL-TIME SERIES
- Thursday's game serves as a grudge match between the Mountaineers and Saints. Each side has won four of the eight previous contests.
- The Mountaineers search for their first win in Loudonville since February 2023 – a 77-75 overtime win.
- Both teams split the 2024-25 meetings, winning their home game. The Mount won 92-57 in Emmitsburg and Siena won 52-49 in Loudonville.
