MOUNT STORY LINES
  • A strong second half propelled Mount St. Mary's past Iona, 66-59, at Knott Arena on Monday night.  Luke McEldon led the Mountaineers with 18 points while Justin Amadi chipped in 14 and Anthony Arrington 10 in the victory.  The Mount used a 26-5 run to erase a nine-point second-half deficit to build a 58-46 lead en route to the win.  The Mount held the Gaels to 32.3 percent shooting in the game.
  • Mount St. Mary's holds an 8-1 lead in the all-time series with Merrimack.  The Mount has won the past seven matchups, including a 57-55 victory in the MAAC semifinals on March 14 last year in the last meeting.  The Mount is 2-1 all-time on the road against the Warriors with a 66-58 victory at Lawler Arena last season.
  • Balanced scoring has been a key part of the Mount's season with four players averaging double figures and six averaging 8.8 points or more. Luke McEldon is the top scorer at 11.3 points per game with Arlandus Keyes (1.1), Trey Deveaux (10.8) and Xavier Lipscomb (10.3) also in double figures.  Justin Amadi (9.8) and Anthony Arrington (8.8) closing in on double figures as well.
  • The Mount has won consecutive games (Penn State Brandywine and Iona) for the first time this season.
  • Mount St. Mary's has used eight different starting lineups this season, including a different lineup in each of the past five games.  Mason So has started every game this season, and is the lone Mountaineer to play in all 14 games this year.  Injuries have been the main factor for the lineup shuffling as the Mount has lost 59 man-games due to injury this season.
  • The Mount has picked it up on the defensive end, holding the opposition to 50.5 points over the past two games.  Opponents are shooting 30.4 percent overall and 32.2 percent from three-point range over that stretch.  The Mount held Iona to 26 points on 9-of-35 (.257) shooting in the second half of Monday night's win.  The Gaels were just 1-of-15 (.067) from three-point range in the second half.
  • Anthony Arrington scored the final seven points in the Mount's 10-0 second-half run that erased a nine-point second-half deficit in the win over Iona.  Arrington, who missed the first nine games this year with an injury, is averaging 8.8 points in his four games played this year.  He had a season-high 10 points in the victory against the Gaels.
  • Up next, the Mount visits Quinnipiac for a 2:00 p.m. matchup on Sunday, January 4.  The Mount then returns home to face Saint Peter's (Jan. 9, 7 pm) and Siena (Jan. 11, 2 pm) at Knott Arena.
