EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 30, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo travels to the Virginia Military Institute to face off against Saint Francis (PA), Bucknell, Austin, and Gannon at the VMI Invitational. After a 3-1 start to their season last weekend, the Mountaineers look to improve upon their non-conference record before the start of their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on March 14 against VMI.
 
MOUNT UPDATE
 
Last weekend, the Mount claimed victory against Gannon 16-7, Mercyhurst 15-7, and Iona 16-11. In their only loss of the weekend, the Mountaineers were defeated by Villanova by a score of 12-6.
 
Anita Radaelli scored 13 goals from 22 attempts for an opening weekend shot to goal percentage of 59%. Radaelli also provided nine assists to her teammates in front of goal and completed nine steals. She also drew 14 exclusions and completed two field blocks.
 
Olivia Fernie made 28 saves across her three games played with 14 saves made against Villanova alone. Leilani Horan scored eight time in four games, with a hat trick coming against Gannon in the first game of the season.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
 
Saint Francis opened their season with a 2-1 weekend at the Princeton Invitational with wins against Siena and La Salle by scores of 16-9 and 17-9 respectively. Their sole loss of the weekend came against LIU, with the score ending 19-12 after four quarters of play.
 
Bucknell recorded a 2-1 record at the same Princeton Invitational with a 9-8 win against Siena and a 10-9 overtime win against La Salle. A 17-10 loss against No. 22 Wagner rounded out the Bison's opening weekend of action.
 
Gannon opened their 2025 season at the Wildcat Invitational while facing the same field as the Mount on opening weekend. With a 0-4 start to the year, the Golden Knights lost to Villanova 16-8, Mercyhurst by a score of 10-6, Iona by a score of 15-10, and the Mount by a score of 16-7.
 
This weekend will mark the start of Austin's 2025 season as they have not yet played a game.
 
ALL-TIME RECORD
 
The Mount is 3-7 against Saint Francis, 1-5 against Bucknell, and 5-1 against Gannon. This will be the first time in program history that the Mount has faced off against Austin.
