EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 24, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo kicks off their 2025 campaign at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Villanova University. A slate of games including Mercyhurst, Gannon, Iona, and the hosts, Villanova await the Mountaineers away in Philadelphia.
In last year's edition of Mount women's water polo, the team went 15-15 with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference record of 4-7. With wins against the Virginia Military Institute, La Salle, and two wins against Siena, the Mountaineers pulled off an upset over No. 22 LIU in the first round of the conference playoffs by a score of 9-8.
MOUNT UPDATE
Anita Radaelli was named to the pre-season All-MAAC team by the conference office earlier this week. Last year, the Italian scored 46 goals, provided 56 assists, and completed 57 steals while having a shooting percentage of 45%.
Beatrice Vieira scored on 27 occasions while having a shooting percentage of 38%. She also provided 27 assists and completed 23 steals. And
Rebecca Valentine scored 57 goals from 127 shots for a shooting percentage of 45%. She also drew 55 exclusions for the team.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
During last year's campaign, Gannon played out to a 10-12 record on the season, with a 2-4 record in the Western Water Polo Association. They faced a similar field at the Wildcat Invitational in 2024, losing to the Mount, Iona, and Villanova while beating Mercyhurst 13-8. Last year, Vilanova went 21-11 across their 2024 campaign with a 5-7 record in the MAAC. At their home invitational last year, the Wildcats went 4-0 across competition against Mercyhurst, Iona, Gannon, and the Mount.
Iona earned a record of 14-16 with a 6-5 record in the MAAC. White at the Wildcat Invitational last year, the Gaels recorded wins against Gannon and Mercyhurst while losing to Villanova and the Mount by scores of 10-8 and 13-10 respectively. And Mercyhurst recorded a 7-24 record in last season's campaign. They went 0-4 in the Wildcat Invitational last year.

The Mount has a record of 4-1 against Gannon, a 7-1 record against Mercyhurst, a 1-6 record against Villanova, and a 2-5 record against Iona.
