Carey Breaks American Record for T44 200 Meter Dash at Paralympics

EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 5, 2024) – Competing in her second event at the 2024 Paralympic Games, Mount St. Mary's sophomore Annie Carey set another record. This time, she set the American Record for the T44 classification in the 200 meter final.
 
Carey set the record twice running in the T64 event, which brings together runners over several classifications. In the second heat of the semifinal, she took third with a time of 27.87 seconds and earned qualification to the final eight. During the T64 final, she improved on her semifinal time with a time of 27.62 seconds, coming in sixth place.
 
The 200m comes after her Paralympic Record distance of 4.96 meters in the long jump final, setting the record this past Saturday.
 
In Carey's final event on Thursday, she earned a time of 13.39 seconds in the 100m dash, falling .15 seconds shy of moving onto the final.
