EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 16, 2024) – The race for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) postseason is heating up, and Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse has two home games left to try and grab a spot. The first of these games is against the Manhattan Jaspers.
MOUNT UPDATE
A furious last minute comeback this past Saturday ended with the game-tying goal landing in the net of the opposing goalkeeper as the Mount fell to Siena 7-6. All six scores were contributed by a different player. The team finished its road schedule with a mark of 4-4.
MAAC playoff implications are wide-ranging for almost every team in the league. Two wins will ensure the Mountaineers are among the six who play postseason lacrosse. Winning one is also a positive sign, but some help will be required.
Mackenzi Furlong continues to lead the offense with 36 goals and 12 assists for 48 points.
Madison Harmening draws level with
Molly Molchanoff in the caused turnover department at 16 apiece, and
Ashlyn Watkins crossed 100 saves for the season during the Siena game.
SCOUTING THE JASPERS
Manhattan comes into Wednesday looking to pick up their second MAAC win, and their first road victory. The team has wins over LIU, La Salle, and FDU out of conference and Quinnipiac in conference. Olivia Cruthers is the leading point scorer for the Jaspers with 35 for the season off 18 goals and a team best 17 assists. Andrea Liotta has the most caused turnovers with 26 and Ashley Gambardella has 121 saves to lead the defense.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
After the Mountaineers won the first 12 contests over the Jaspers, Manhattan was able to earn their first win in the series, defeating the Mount 11-8. The series dates back to 1997.
