EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 15, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse plays it second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on Long Island, facing the LIU Sharks.
MOUNT UPDATE
In the conference opener the Mount fell to the Manhattan Jaspers by a final of 12-6.
Will McKay finished the contest with his second hat trick as a Mountaineers.
Ian Plott,
Brody Atkinson, and
Kevin Whitty recorded multiple points during the game as well.
Finding ways to score continues to be a priority for the team as they average a few decimal points below eight goals a game, compared to 14 from the competition. Defense remains the anchor, ranking in the top half of the league for ground balls and caused turnovers per game.
Mitchell Dunham has the most CT's with 15, followed by
Jackson Phillips who is also in double digits at 13.
SCOUTING THE SHARKS
Following a loss to Monmouth in the season opener, LIU has pieced together a four-game win streak which includes a 17-8 victory over VMI in the conference opener. Aidan Zuhoski leads for goals and points with a respective 14 and 17. Sean Boll boasts double digit assists with 10. A quarter of defenders – Mark Regan, Tyler Davide, Nicholas Davide, and Karl LaCalandra – make up most ground balls and caused turnovers.
ALL-TIME SERIES
LIU won the first two games in the series beginning in 2021 before the Mount won last year, 16-13.
Kelly Gouin scored six times on 10 shots.
