EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 7, 2024) – As conference play hits the home stretch, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball welcomes Rider to Knott Arena looking for a season sweep of the Broncs.

MOUNT UPDATE

A gritty performance against Manhattan went unrewarded in terms of the win column last Saturday, as the Jaspers shot 61 percent to overcome 26 forced turnovers by the Mount in a 67-60 decision. Four Mountaineers posted double figures, led by a career-high 25 points from Jessica Tomasetti.

Jo Raflo scored 10 in last Saturday's game and remains in the top 100 nationwide for three pointers per game (61st), and three-point makes (89th) as of Monday, February 5. Tomasetti is 68th for minutes played per game at 34.6. As a team, the Mountaineers are 57th in three-point percentage defense (.281) and 90th in scoring defense, keeping teams at 60.5 points per game.

In the league standings, the Mount holds on to seventh place as the season enters the stretch drive towards the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship. Quinnipiac, who the Mount have a tiebreaker over, sit a game and a half ahead on the table. On the opposite side, Marist – who has the tiebreaker head-to-head – sits one-half game behind in eighth place.

SCOUTING RIDER

Sitting in a three-way tie for ninth place in the league, Rider comes to Maryland looking to snap a six-game losing streak. The Broncs' last win was a 76-63 victory over Canisius on January 13. Graduate student Taylor Langan continues to have the largest presence, logging 14.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Three-point specialists Makalya Firebaugh and Jessika Schiffer have combined for 68 of the team's 111 makes this year.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES

Mount St. Mary's is 20-7 all-time against Rider, and 15-1 on the Knott Arena floor. Since joining the MAAC, they are 2-1 thanks to a split last season and a 60-53 win in New Jersey last month. Rider's one win in Emmitsburg came during the 2011-12 season.

LOOKING AHEAD

Staying in Emmitsburg, the Mount battles Canisius Saturday (Feb. 10) afternoon.
