EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 29, 2024) – Facing three ranked opponents this weekend, Mount St. Mary's women's water polo readies for a challenging weekend at the Claremont Convergence, hosted by several teams in Southern California.
MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's enters the weekend with a 9-4 record. They split a pair of games at the Princeton Invite two weekends ago, defeating the Bucknell Bison and falling to the host Tigers.
Ana Luisa Cotta has the most goals for the team with 32.
Anita Radaelli leads in assists with 30 and steals with 26, while
Heather Lock has the most drawn exclusions with 34.
Hannah Keyser and
Olivia Fernie have almost an identical split for playing time in goal, with Keyser edging Fernie 43-41 in saves.
THE COMPETITION: Three teams are ranked in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) poll, with Arizona State leading the way at #6. The Sun Devils are 14-4 on the season but fell in their most recent game February 25 against #8 Michigan. Pacific - #15 in the country – enters the weekend 8-3 and on a three-game win streak. #12 Long Beach State is 8-6 on the year and lost their last three against tough competition in Hawaii, Fresno State, and UC Irvine. Chapman is 3-4 this year and lost last Wednesday to Iona.
PREVIOUS HISTORY: Of the four teams the Mountaineers will face this weekend, the team has faced Pacific once, falling 13-3 last season.
