EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 25, 2024) – With 115 points for the men's team and 98 for the women's team, the Mount St. Mary's track & field teams bring home third place finishes from the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Two records toppled during Sunday's portion of the meet.
Emelie Beckman set a MAAC Championship record for the pole vault, earning 3.90 meters. That mark also matches the school record held by her coach,
Rachel Finn. In the triple jump,
Madelyn Valpy broke the school record for the second time this season with 11.93 meters. Valpy shared the record for
Simone Smith for most of the year, and the duo broke the mark set by
Jovana Miloradovic and Fatima Abbas with 11.65 meters.
Beckman won her event and Valpy finished second, part of several podium placements for the Mount on day two.
Richard Gilchrist took top billing in the 60 hurdles at 8.06 seconds while teammate
Will Stephenson finished in third.
Julia Kirschnick ended second in the pole vault behind Beckman with an impressive 3.80 meters and was one of five runner-up finishes for the team.
Alexe Gauthier ran the 200 meter dash at 25.30 meters,
Renaldi Falwell threw the shot put for 15.77 meters, and
Cyre Hooper jumped the triple event at 14.70 meters. Gauthier (7.71 seconds) and
Todd Charles (6.87 seconds) took third in the 60 meter dashes.
Combining the two days, the Mount finished with four winners. Beckman and Gilchrist joined
Justin Sluijter and
Tyler Cash as victors for the tournament.
Rider took both the men's and women's portions of the meet. Iona finished second on the men's side and Quinnipiac came in second on the women's side.
The 2023-24 indoor track & field season concludes with IC4A/ECAC Championships, hosted by Boston University beginning March 1. Outdoor season begins mid-March in South Carolina.
