EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 23, 2024) – Two teams seeking their first win of the season meet this Saturday as Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse welcomes UMBC to Waldron Family Stadium.

MOUNT UPDATE

For their 2024 home opener, the Mount hosted NJIT and fell to the Highlanders in an 11-7 final. Brody Atkinson received recognition as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week after posting his first career hat trick in the game. Owen Peters recorded 18 saves in a busy day at the net, and now stands fifth in the MAAC for save percentage.

Atkinson is tied with Cormac Giblin for the most points on the team with eight each. Giblin has the highest number of goals with six. Mitchell Dunham has the most caused turnovers with nine and is second in ground balls behind Peters with 11.

SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS

UMBC started their campaign two weeks after the Mount started theirs, falling in overtime 11-10 to the Drexel Dragons. Three Retrievers – Mateo Brown, Jordan Galloway, and Corey Myers – registered multi-goal outings, and Jayson Tingue collected nine saves.

Last year the team went 8-5 with a 3-4 mark in the America East. Brown was their leader in points in 2023, finishing the season with 34 goals and five assists.

ALL-TIME SERIES

Saturday marks the 25th all-time meeting between Mount St. Mary's and UMBC. The Retrievers hold the upper hand by a large margin, 22-2. Mount picked up its first win in 2018, a 16-7 final in the home opener that year. They won again in 2022 by holding off a late Retrievers rally to win 9-8.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

On March 2, the Mount heads to New Jersey to square off with the Monmouth Hawks. The team returns home Tuesday, March 5 to battle Binghamton.
