EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 16, 2024) – Senior
Renaldi Falwell toppled the Mount St. Mary's record for the weight throw in Friday's Father Diamond Invitational hosted by George Mason. The effort highlights a series of high placements and several top 10 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) marks during the meet.
Falwell's best throw measured at 18.54 meters, overtaking the record held by Brenden Chavis and set during the 2017 IC4A Championships. The mark was second for the Father Diamond Invitational and stands third among MAAC competitors during the indoor season.
Four more Mountaineers achieved top 10 MAAC marks Friday.
Tara Coyne achieved a 1.53 meter high jump which is seventh best in the conference and
Julia Kirschnick finished with a 9.26 second 60 hurldes, good for ninth best.
Bah Abdoulaye ran the 60 meter dash in 7.01 seconds and
John Ruona finished the 1000 meters in 2:31.57, both earning the 10
th best time in the league this season.
Gabriel Nwaete won the men's high jump, combining with Ben Saad in a 1-2 punch. Coyne's high jump effort also took first on the women's side. The high jumps headlined a slew of top five finishes at the meet. Abdoulaye finished second in the 60 meter dash, and
Avery Ferron (26.54 seconds, 200m dash) and
Emma Aller Espina (5.20m, long jump) joined him as runner-up finishers.
Anna Hsia (60m finals), Ferron (400m),
Emma Strickland (800m), Kirschnick (60h),
Catherine Carey (long jump), CeCe Bell (shot put and weight throw), Ruona (1000m),
David Mishra (60h), and Falwell (shot put) all finished in the top five at the meet.
Friday's meet concludes the indoor track & field regular season. The team heads to New York next week for the MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
