The Mount St. Mary's softball team opens the 2024 season at the Winthrop Eagle Classic this weekend.  The Mountaineers play a pair of games on both Saturday and Sunday.

MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's begins the 2024 season with four games at the Winthrop Eagle Classic.  The Mountaineers are coming off a record-breaking season that saw the team post a school-record 32 victories and a second-place finish in the team's first season in the MAAC.  The Mount finished the 2023 season with a 32-19 record that included a 15-5 mark in the MAAC regular season, good for second place in the standings.  The Mount rattled off a 13-game win streak last year, the second-longest in program history.

PRESEASON POLL:  The Mount has been picked to finish in fourth place in the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll, as selected by the league's 11 head coaches.  
Defending champion Marist was tabbed as the preseason favorite, collecting eight of the 11 first-place votes.  Canisius, last year's regular season champion, was picked second while earning the other three first-place tallies.  Fairfield was picked third, the Mount fourth, and Siena fifth to round out the top five in the poll.

ALL-TIME SERIES vs. USC UPSTATE:  The Mountaineers are 0-1 all-time against USC Upstate, falling 8-1 on the road on March 2, 2018.

ALL-TIME SERIES vs. WINTHROP:  Mount St. Mary's is 1-2 all-time against Winthrop.  The Mount lost the meeting between the two teams, 5-2, on February 28, 2021.  The Mount's win was a 6-3 victory on March 3, 1999, in the first-ever matchup between the two schools.

ALL-TIME SERIES vs. MONMOUTH:  Mount St. Mary's is 4-40 all-time against former Northeast Conference rival Monmouth.  The teams have not played since Monmouth swept a doubleheader at the Mount on April 20, 2013.  The Mount's last win over the Hawks was a 5-2 victory at home on May 7, 2011, in the second game of a doubleheader.  The Mount is 3-19 at home, 1-17 on the road, and 0-4 at a neutral site against Monmouth.

ALL-TIME SERIES vs. APPALACHIAN STATE: The Mount is 0-2 all-time against Appalachian State.   This will be the first meeting between the two teams since a 4-1 Appalachian State win on March 19, 2004.  The Mount dropped the first all-time meeting, 1-0, on March 9, 2001.

UP NEXT:  The Mount heads to the Carolina Classic on February 24 and 25 where they will face North Carolina (twice), Lipscomb and George Washington.
