Emmitsburg, Md. (March 31, 2026)--Mount St. Mary's cruised to a 10-2 win in six innings over visiting Coppin State at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Avery Dinges and
Janie Lofland each had three hits to fuel the Mount's victory. Starting pitcher
Kaya Hannon turned in a solid start to pick up her first victory of the year. The Mount extended its win streak to a season-high four games.
After Coppin State scored in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead, the Mount responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good. Dinges led off the bottom of the first with a triple to center field, and she came home with the tying run on a
Gina Del Giorno groundout to short.
Tyra Christian then reached on an error, and Lofland made the Eagles pay for the mistake, lacing a double to left center field to put the Mount ahead. Another Coppin State error led to the Mount's third run of the frame.
Mount St. Mary's (10-20) broke the game open with a six-run third inning. With one out, Christian was hit by a pitch, and Lofland followed with a base hit.
Maya Alvarez connected for a double to right field to put the Mount ahead, 4-1, and Peyten De Weese added to the lead with an RBI single. After a
Grace Koberg base hit, Dinges hit her second triple of the contest for a seven-run lead. A wild pitch allowed Dinges to scamper home with the final run of the inning.
The Eagles (2-16) got a run back in the top of the fifth, but the Mount clinched the run-rule victory with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the sixth.
Ellie Meier's first career hit led the inning off, and pinch runner
Sharon Manni stole second base.
Erin Cromwell followed with her first career hit, a single to center. She moved to second on the throw home to put runners on first and second. Lofland then ended the game with a drive to the left-center field gap for a walk-off single.
GAME NOTES
- Mount St. Mary's improves to 45-7 all-time against Coppin State with the victory, including a 28-2 mark at home. The Mount has won 14 of the past 15 matchups in the series.
- Dinges finished the game 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base. Dinges now has a team-high 25 stolen bases and is now tied with Del Giorno for the team lead with three triples.
- Lofland added a career-high three hits in the game, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
- Del Giorno had her career-best 13-game hit streak snapped in the game. Del Giorno went 0-for-4 with an RBI in the win.
- Kaya Hannon started and picked up the win for the Mount, allowing one run and three hits in four innings of work. Sophia Vlahos pitched the final two innings, allowing one run and one hit with a pair of strikeouts.
UP NEXT: The Mount returns to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a three-game series against Niagara at home this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader at noon on Friday, followed by a single game at noon on Saturday.
