EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 1, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo faces four opponents this weekend at an invitational hosted by Virginia Military Institute. McKendree, Gannon, and Mercyhurst all count towards the team record. Since Toronto is an international team, that game serves as an exhibition.
MOUNT UPDATE: The team opened the 2024 season with a 3-1 start, earning victories against both the Lakers and Golden Knights as well as the Iona Gaels.
Ana Luisa Cotta led the Mountaineers in goals with 10.
Anita Radaelli went 3-for-6 shooting in her first collegiate weekend and has the most steals with 13. Cotta and Radaelli share the assist lead with eight, and
Rebecca Valentine tallies the most exclusions drawn at 10.
Olivia Fernie collected 15 of the team's saves.
THE COMPETITION: McKendree opens the 2024 season at VMI, following a 17-9 campaign from last year. Gannon picked up a win at Mercyhurst to start 1-3, while the Lakers are 0-5 to kick off their season. Toronto's season began in September and lasts through early March with the Varsity Blues attaining a 15-6 mark.
PREVIOUS HISTORY: The Mountaineers are 5-1 all-time against Mercyhurst and 3-1 against Gannon. They face McKendree for the first time.
UP NEXT: Another four-game weekend takes place February 10-11 with the Mount playing at the Bucknell Invite.
