EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 28, 2024) - Graduate student
Richard Gilchrist qualified for the 60 meter hurdles finals and won, headlining Mount St. Mary's track & field performance at the George Mason Patriot Games in Virginia this past Saturday. The Mount's record holder for the event, Gilchrist won the preliminaries with a time of 8.25 seconds, then improved to 8.20 seconds in the final.
More notable finishes include a second place finish from
Alexe Gauthier in the women's 60 meter finals, earning a time of 7.81 seconds, and another runner-up spot for Diego Miguelena in the men's 3000 meters with a time of 8:31.79. Aaran Fahey registered a 4.93 meter pole vault to come in third, and Ben Saad earned a 1.80 meter high jump to come in fourth. In the women's pole vault,
Emelie Beckman also placed third in the pole vault with a distance of 3.68 meters.
Sarah Purdy reached the finals in the women's 60 meter hurdles, finishing in seventh. She was one of three seventh place finishers for the women's team, joining
Alexis Zimmerman (400m) and
Logan Hart (long jump).
On February 3, the Mount sends competitors to the Penn State Sykes Sabok Challenge and the Liberty Open in Virginia.
