EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 26, 2024) – Winter Homecoming features the first repeat opponent for the Mount in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, as the Niagara Purple Eagles come to Emmitsburg.
MOUNT UPDATE
The Mount come into Saturday riding their first win streak of the year after beating Rider and Saint Peter's on the road this past week. With four road victories the team surpassed last year's total of true road wins. They also have a chance at home to avenge a 71-62 loss to the Purple Eagles on January 6 at Gallagher Arena. Niagara generated 54 second half points to overcome the Mount's 17-point halftime lead.
In the win over the Peacocks,
Rosa Revueltas set a career high for points with 11.
Jada Lee added a career-high nine rebounds and
Giana Hoddinott a career-high three steals. Holding an opponent under 50 points for the third time this year, the Mountaineers now stand 80
th nationwide in scoring defense while also improving numbers for field goal defense.
SCOUTING NIAGARA
Following the Mount game, Niagara dropped its next three games before rebounding with an overtime win against Quinnipiac and a victory over Rider. With 13.7 steals a contest, the team ranks second behind West Virginia for most swipes on average. They are also second in turnovers forced per game, 20
th in offensive rebounds a contest, and 21
st in turnover margin. Aaliyah Parker leads in points, rebounds, and steals. Angel Parker has the highest average for assists, and Destiny Strother has the most three-pointers.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Including the defeat in New York earlier this month, the Mount is 1-5 all-time against Niagara and 0-3 since joining the MAAC. The Purple Eagles took the last five games after the Mount took the initial meeting in 1989.
