EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 17, 2024) – After defeating a solid Quinnipiac squad, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball seeks a second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win. They welcome the Marist Red Foxes to Knott Arena, who come in riding on two consecutive victories of their own.
MOUNT UPDATE
Eight different Mountaineers scored in the 56-50 win over the Bobcats, which included 13 points from the bench. When non-starters add 10 or more points to the total, the Mount is 3-3 versus 1-7 when they add nine or less.
The team also increased their average enough to surpass Saint Peter's in scoring offense, getting out of 11
th place in the MAAC for that category. Increased options have been a key to newfound success in that department, with new contributions from players like redshirt freshman
Giana Hoddinott and the arrival of junior
Rosa Revueltas from injury helping the cause, to name a few.
Senior
Jessica Tomasetti entered the top 50 for scoring in program history, tying Melissa Cuneo (1991-95) with 759 career points.
SCOUTING MARIST
Injuries inhibited the Red Foxes in the early goings as the team dropped 10 in a row following a 2-1 start. But in the past week, Marist found their footing with wins over Rider and Niagara. They come to Emmitsburg seeking a second victory away from Poughkeepsie this season.
An x-factor for the team is Kiara Fisher, who has played eight of Marist's 15 games. Since her return Fisher is averaging 11.1 points and 6.2 assists. Zaria Shazer is another key player with a pace of 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Members of the Northeast Conference together from 1990-97, the Mount and Marist are meeting on the hardwood for the 20
th time. The Mountaineers lead the series 15-4, but the Red Foxes swept both contests last season. In the Emmitsburg showdown last year, Fisher set a new high mark for points by a visitor at Knott Arena with 44.
LOOKING AHEAD
Mount St. Mary's takes to the road for the next two games, battling Rider January 20 and Saint Peter's January 25.
