Women's Soccer Drops MAAC Matchup at Fairfield

Box Score
Fairfield, Conn. (September 16, 2023)—Mount St. Mary's saw its two-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 3-0 loss at Fairfield on Saturday afternoon.  Arden Lembryk made eight saves for the Mountaineers in the game.

The Stags (3-3-3, 1-0-0 MAAC) opened the scoring with a controversial goal in the fourth minute.  Fairfield had a corner kick that saw Caroline Kelly head the ball off the cross bar.  The rebound went to Maddy Theriault, who had her shot stopped by Lembryk.  The rebound went back to Fairfield's Elle Scott, who sent a shot toward the goal that was blocked by a Mount defender.  The referee ruled that the ball had crossed the line before being blocked, and he upheld that decision after a discussion with the two assistant referees.

Despite pressure from the Stags in the offensive end, the score remained 1-0 until late in the first half when Theriault scored in the 37th minute.  She sent a low shot to the lower right part of the goal with an assist going to Angela Filosa.
Theriault made it 3-0 when she took a feed from Scott and hit the upper right corner for her second goal of the game.  The Mountaineers (2-5-2, 0-1-1 MAAC) held the advantage in corner kicks at 8-4.  Fairfield had a 32-7 shot advantage, including 11-0 in shots on goal.

The Mountaineers are back on the road next week with a MAAC matchup against Manhattan on Saturday, September 23.  Kick-off is slated for 12:00 p.m.
