EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 11, 2023) – Going for six wins in a row and looking to lock in a top spot in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse welcomes Canisius for the final scheduled home game of the 2023 season.

MOUNT UPDATE

Building a 9-2 advantage, the Mount held off a second half run by the Marist Red Foxes to achieve their fifth straight win, 12-9. Kelly Gouin recorded a hat trick in the game, and Jake Krieger finished with four points – two goals and two assists. Connor Beals went 13-for-21 on faceoffs and Griffin McGinley completed 14 saves, with both performances worthy of giving players spots on the MAAC weekly honor roll.

At 5-1 in the conference, the Mount remains tied with Manhattan for first place. Should proceedings have ended today, they would be the #2 seed in the conference tournament since the Jaspers hold the tiebreaker.

A victory would mark the Mountaineers' longest win streak since 2003. That squad won straight and nine out of 10 on the way to the program's first NCAA Tournament bid.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS

Canisius is looking to reverse a four-game losing streak and climb out of the bottom of the league. Two of the four defeats came in grueling fashion during sudden death overtime.

Sophomore Colin Kelly is the MAAC leader for goals scored with 36 and has the most points with 39 for the Golden Griffins. Micah Hanson takes charge of all faceoffs, sitting an even .500 for the year and adding 110 ground balls.

ALL-TIME SERIES

The Mount holds a 15-5 lead in the series, returning for the first time since 2010. Canisius had more successes against the Mountaineers in recent years, winning three consecutive from 2007-09 before the Mount rebounded in the final meeting.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Taking to the road for the last two games, the Mount battles Sacred Heart (Apr. 15) and Siena (Apr. 22) as they determine final positioning for the MAAC Tournament.
