Mountaineers take on the Red Division at VMI for Three MAAC Games

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 31, 2023) – Women's water polo travels to Virginia Military Institute (VMI) for the third week of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. Unlike the previous week at Siena, each game will take place in the afternoon and evening. The Mount will take on Long Island University (LIU) and Wagner, along with the final challenge in the form of the Keydets from VMI.

MOUNT UPDATE
 
The Mount left their weekend at Siena with a 2-1 record, scoring 16 goals against and defeating St. Francis Brooklyn and Siena, with their loss at the hands of Iona. With two weekends of play under their belts, the Mount increases their MAAC record to 3-3.
 
Annefleur ten Bloemendal and Ana Luisa Cotta were the top goal scorers last weekend, scoring a combined total of 21 of the Mount's 40 goals. Pip Piper stopped 22 shots and Robyn Currie adds on to her assists which now stands at 34.
 
THE MAAC PICTURE
 
In the league's Blue Division, the Mount breaks the tie with St. Francis Brooklyn and takes the lead by one win, with the Terriers record staying at 2-3. The Mount still trails behind the division's leader Marist (5-0) and Iona (3-2), while continuing to stay ahead of Siena (0-5). The Red division, Wagner claims the top spot (5-0) with LIU (4-1) not too far behind, followed by Villanova (3-3), La salle (1-4) and VMI (0-5).
 
The hosts for the weekend, VMI, stand 3-11 for the entire season. Courtney Novotny and Sadie Smith lead the Keydets in both goals (29) and assists (11), while also sharing a 40-point lead with Sydney Shettleroe. Katie Lloyd is the lone goalie on the team, with 62 saves in the season with a .352% overall save percentage.

Mount Saint Mary's makes their way to Villanova for two games April 7th and 8th.
