EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 24, 2023) – The second weekend of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play for women's water polo takes place at Siena. Facing a schedule similar to the weekend at Marist, the Mount faces Iona and St. Francis Brooklyn before challenging the hosts.
MOUNT UPDATE
Mount St. Mary's went 1-2 in the first conference weekend with all games decided by two goals or less. The Mount defeated Iona by one before losing to St. Francis Brooklyn by one and Marist by two.
With 186 of 467 shots going into the net, the team is scoring at a rate of 40 percent.
Annefleur ten Bloemendal has 38 of those goals, one of six members in double figures for the year.
Pip Piper has the most saves with 98 through 11 games.
Robyn Currie has the most assists with 27.
Drawing exclusions has been beneficial to the Mount's chances. Forcing 131 power plays and 12 penalties, the players have turned those opportunities into 69 goals. ten Bloemendal has drawn the most at 46.
THE MAAC PICTURE
In the league's Blue Division, the Mount sits in a tie with the Terriers for third place, ahead of Siena (0-2) and behind Marist (3-0) and Iona (2-1). The Red Division, featuring all affiliate members, LIU and Wagner went a perfect 3-0 on the first weekend, followed by Villanova, La Salle and VMI.
The hosts for the weekend, Siena, stand 4-13 for the entire season. Parker Thomas leads the Saints in points at 39, divided into 33 goals and six assists. Anna Mossakowski and Caroline Behr split goaltending duties, with Mossakowski the saves leader at 45.
