EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 17, 2023) – The first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win and first victory at home is up for grabs Saturday as Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse takes on the LIU Sharks.
MOUNT UPDATE
Facing the reigning conference tournament champions, the Mount ran into a defensive wall in their MAAC opener with Manhattan. Keeper Joseph Persico and company limited the Mountaineers to three goals and a shot-on-goal rate of 20 percent.

William Vandegrift managed to find the back of the net.
Graduate student
Jared McMahon saw a point streak of 26 games come to an end during the Manhattan game as well. The streak dated back to the opening game of the 2022 season. The attacker continues to lead the team in all three scoring categories.
Connor Beals has won 60 of 105 faceoff attempts for a .571 percentage, placing him second on the conference leaderboard.
Steven Schmitt and
Mitchell Dunham are tied for the most ground balls at 28, with Dunham causing the most turnovers at 14.
SCOUTING THE SHARKS
After dropping their first four games to open the season, LIU comes to Emmitsburg on a two-game winning streak. The Sharks defeated UMass Lowell on March 3
rd before taking their MAAC opener over VMI, 14-13.
Sean Boll has the most goals with 12, followed by Brad Beck in double digits at 10. Tommy Ramsey leads in ground balls with 16 among a diverse spread of teammates. Sean Gillman assumes most of the goaltending duties, earning 57 saves to 56 goals allowed.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Former members of the Northeast Conference together, Mount and LIU are meeting for the third consecutive year. The Sharks' inaugural season of 2020 was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the contest between them and the Mount was cancelled that year.
LIU won the first two meetings by scores of 17-15 in 2021 and 14-10 last year.

Mount St. Mary's takes to the road for the next two games, traveling to Wagner next Saturday (Mar. 25) and VMI the following Wednesday (Mar. 29).
