EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 10, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse begins play against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) competition as they face Manhattan Saturday.
MOUNT UPDATE
The Mount is looking to turn around their season, after dropping five of six games in non-conference action. The most recent showdown was this past Saturday (Mar. 4) – an overtime defeat to Monmouth, 8-7. Six of seven scores came in the second quarter, with
Jared McMahon leading with three goals. With 13 goals and 17 points, McMahon is the team's offensive leader.
On defense,
Steven Schmitt has the most ground balls with 26,
Mitchell Dunham the most caused turnovers with nine, and
Griffin McGinley has recorded 66 of 72 saves for the team.
SCOUTING THE JASPERS
Under the helm of first-year head coach John Odierna, Manhattan is off to a 3-2 start for the year which includes a win over Navy. Kyle Gucwa and Liam Walshe tie for the most goals with 12 apiece, with Gucwa adding nine assists for 21 points.
The Jaspers are the defending champions of the MAAC, upsetting No. 2 Marist and No. 1 St. Bonaventure to claim the title. They would fall in the first round at Vermont.
ALL-TIME SERIES
One-time conference foes during the Mount's first run in the MAAC, the two sides have faced each other 22 times before. Mount St. Mary's holds the all-time lead, 14-8. The last meeting was in 2014 – a Manhattan win, 8-7.
