Catherine Carey recently competed at the 2023 Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile, earning bronze medals in the long jump along with the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Carey was part of a contingent of 58 athletes representing the United States in track & field events, classified as athletics by the Games.
Competing in the T42/T44/T61-64 division for long jump, Carey took the bronze behind Beatriz Hatz from the United States, recipient of the gold medal, and silver medalist Ana Claudia da Silva of Brazil. Carey achieved a distance of 4.55 meters on her fifth attempt and recorded successful jumps on all six tries. As a T64 athlete in the dashes, she posted a time of 28.72 seconds in the 200 meter race, and 13.89 seconds in the 100 meter race.
Catherine Carey – known colloquially as Annie – has represented the United States in track & field, swimming, and the triathlon.
Born in China with a club foot, Carey was adopted by an American family and grew up in Boise, Idaho. Before competing in Chile this year, she participated at the 2019 World Para Athletes Junior Championships.
Contested every four years, the Parapan American Games is an international multi-sport event for people with disabilities, governed by the Americas Paralympic Committee. The 2023 event was the seventh edition, featuring 1,943 athletes from 31 nations.
