Mount Women's Soccer Stopped by Fairfield in MAAC Semifinals

Box Score Fairfield, Conn. (November 2, 2023)—Three second half goals proved to be the difference as Mount St. Mary's fell to Fairfield, 3-0, in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference semifinals on Thursday night.  The Mount finishes the season with a 7-9-3 overall record, tying for the second most wins in a season in program history.

The Stags broke the scoreless tie in the 59th minute, converting on their fifth corner kick of the game.  Meghan Carriger connected for a header on goal off the corner, Keshwar couldn't control the rebound which went to Maddy Theriault, who had her shot tipped in by Allie Kirby.

The Stags (10-5-4) added to the lead just five minutes later when Elle Scott intercepted a kick and sent Theriault in on goal.  Theriault converted the shot to make it a 2-0 game.  Theriault added to the lead in the 68th minute when she again was sent in one-on-one with Keshwar.  She was able to evade the Mount keeper and slide the ball into the net for a three-goal lead.

The Mount had a chance to get on the scoreboard in the 78th minute when Madison Bee drew a penalty in the box.  Luisangely Navas took the kick, but had her shot to the lower right stopped by Fairfield keeper Katie Wright.

Fairfield held the shot advantage in the game, 23-to-8, including an 11-to-5 edge in shots on goal.  Keshwar made eight saves for the Mount while playing the opening 82 minutes.  Arden Lembryk played the final eight minutes for the Mount.
  In the opening half, the Mount limited Fairfield's scoring chances to several long shots that Keshwar easily handled.  The Mount's top scoring chances in the opening 45 minutes was on a pair of Kayla Pennington headers.

This was the third all-time meeting between the two teams.  The Stags edged the Mount, 2-1, last year in Emmitsburg, and won the regular season matchup this year, 3-0, in Fairfield.

Fairfield advances to the MAAC Championship game where they will head to top-seeded Quinnipiac on Sunday.
