DEPTFORD, N.J. (January 20, 2023) – The Mount St. Mary's bowling team opened the Northeast Classic 4-1 in baker competition Friday. The Mount picked up wins over #5 nationally ranked Stephen F. Austin, #7 Youngstown State, Wilmington (RV) and Mount Aloysius.
Graduate student

#15 Mount: 914 | (RV) Wilmington: 888
The Mount failed to reach the 200 mark in five games against the Wildcats, but grinded out the first four games over 180 to have just enough total pin-fall to pull out the win.
#15 Mount: 1,006 | #5 Stephen F. Austin: 985
The Mountaineers picked a good time for their lone 1,000 of the day as every pin was needed vs. top five foe SFA. A huge 236-171 game one advantage proved to be the difference as the LadyJacks could not muster up enough pins to comeback.
#15 Mount: 950 | Mount Aloysius: 676
In a battle of the Mount's, MSM had their way with the Mounties of Mount Aloysius to the tune of a near 300-pin victory. A 214 game three and 200 game five were the high marks.
#15 Mount: 925 | #19 Medaille: 949
The lone loss of the day would come in a NCAA Regional Semifinal rematch with the Mavericks of Medaille. The Mount nearly came back from a 63-pin deficit game one, but the daily low 141 mark would prove too much to overcome.
#15 Mount: 938 | #7 Youngstown State: 910
Refusing to hang their heads on the previous match, the Mount grinded out a 938-910 win over the #7 Penguins of Youngstown State for their second win against a top-10 opponent on the day. A 212-191 game one and 210-189 game three advantage proved to be the difference.
"Our team had a lot of talks about doing the little things differently today after a disappointing trip to Las Vegas," said head coach
Kenneth DeGraaf. "Words mean nothing. It is all about action and these ladies showed the perfect response. Are we a perfect product? Far from. However, this level of engagement and effort will result in more good days than bad. We were quick on our moves, trusted what we saw, and will seek to be even better tomorrow."
Competition will resume tomorrow with five traditional matches beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET. All matches are livestreamed on the team's Facebook Page.
