Mount St. Mary’s Bowling Finishes Seventh at USBC Sectionals

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 16, 2026) – In the Smyrna qualifier of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Sectionals, Mount St. Mary's finished seventh in the field of 19 teams. The team fell 311 pins shy of the top four spots to advance to nationals, making the Sectionals their concluding event of the 2025-26 season.

Over the 64-game marathon, the Mount got off to a ninth place start with a pinfall of 2,936, or an average of 183.5. They improved with a 2,995 in games 17-32, rising to sixth place and within striking distance of the top four going into day two. Even a 3,048 series for games 33-48 was not enough to prevent a slide to seventh, where they remained the rest of the way.

Mount bowlers also competed in the Intercollegiate Singles Sectional Qualifier this past Friday. Leah Varela finished highest among the group in 16th place, earning a 1,231 series across six games. Alyssa Balest added a top 25 finish, coming in 22nd place with a 1,201. The top five in the group of 152 advanced to nationals.

Mount St. Mary's finishes the 2025-26 campaign with a 61-36 record.
