EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 4, 2022) – Three games await Mount St. Mary's women's water polo this weekend at the Harvard Invite. Two of the contests count toward Collegiate Water Polo Association play with a non-conference game against Cal Lutheran.
MOUNT UPDATE
Following a 4-5 start, the Mount has fallen on a rough patch, dropping eight consecutive games, along with a 0-4 record in CWPA play. Last weekend, the team succumbed in their home opener to #20 Princeton and three times to teams at Bucknell.
Every field player has tallied at least one goal for the year, with
Rebecca Valentine holding a comfortable squad lead with 48. The freshman also holds the most drawn exclusions with 43.
Lauryn Thomas supplied 19 assists thus far, and
Beatrice Vieira and
Ana Luisa Cotta tie for the team high with 16 steals.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Harvard stands #20 in the CWPA poll while Brown ranks #23. The third opponent, Cal Lutheran, is also no cakewalk – the Regals rank third in the Division III poll.
CLU is 3-3 on the season, losing 12-10 to Cal Baptist in their most recent game. The team logged victories over Cal St. Monterey Bay, Austin and Fresno Pacific during the Tina Finali Memorial Tournament.
Brown comes in at 11-6 with a 2-1 record in CWPA play. Zoe King is the Bears' points leader with 27 goals and 19 assists, while Claire Pisani is one step behind in the scoring department with 26 tallies.
Harvard sails into their home tournament, riding the coattails of a 10 game win streak. The Crimson also boast an unblemished conference record with wins over the Mount, Saint Francis U and Bucknell.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Mount St. Mary's looks to avenge an 18-0 shutout to Harvard last weekend in their second meeting. Cal Lutheran and Brown challenge the Mount for the first time.
