EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 11, 2022) – Princeton University hosts an invitational this weekend, and Mount St. Mary's heads to New Jersey as a first-time participant.

MOUNT UPDATE

The Mount swept a doubleheader in Ohio, defeating Wittenberg 18-7 and Mercyhurst 11-5. After an 0-15 beginning, the team find themselves in a much better situation with a 3-1 start.

Rebecca Valentine leads in the Mountaineers in goals scored (15), efficiency (63%) and drawn exclusions (11). Many players contribute assists, led by Robyn Currie with nine. On defense, Samantha Bright heads the goalkeeper class with 38 and Currie matches her assist total with nine steals.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Saturday's opponents come in with a combined 4-6 record. St. Francis Brooklyn stands 1-3, with their victory coming against Gannon by a 14-10 final. Anja Miskoivc led the Terriers with eight goals across the four games. Iona is 2-3 and riding a two-game streak with wins over Ottawa Arizona and Villanova. The duo of Maeve Ellen Wydan and Jordan Van Reeken lead the Gaels with 14 goals each.

Sunday starts with Villanova, hungry for a win after an 0-4 start. Aside from the defeat to Iona, the Wildcats dropped contests to ranked opponents Harvard and Princeton. LIU will be the toughest matchup as the Sharks rank 17th in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association poll. The Brooklynites' losses are to #2 Stanford and #3 UCLA, but they have notched a tournament, 14-9, over #10 Indiana.

ALL-TIME SERIES

Villanova is the lone team with a previous history against the Mount. The first game officially counts as a forfeit because the Mountaineers did not have enough players to finish, and the second game was a 16-4 Wildcat victory.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

A weekend in Erie, Pa. awaits the Mountaineers, traveling to Penn State Behrend and playing four teams in the Laker Invite.
