TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Baltimore, Md. (September 24, 2021)—The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team had a pair of teams advance to the quarterfinals on the opening day of the Loyola Men's Tennis Invitational.Â
The tournament features four doubles teams from each school playing a best-of-three format that includes a doubles match and then a pair of singles matches.
The Mount's duo of
Elliot Stevens and
Giovanni Abriola posted a 3-0 win over Loyola's Gustavo Rotundo and Tyler Mast. Stevens and Abriola won the doubles point, 6-3, with each Mountaineer winning in straight sets in singles action.
The Mount's tandem of Fillipos Zacchiotis and Justin Karnibad cruised to a 3-0 win over a pair from Harford Community College. The Mount's trio of
Pablo Martinez Zuccardi,
Jacob Berg and
Ryan Isgett lost their first round match, 3-0 to a duo from Johns Hopkins. The duo of
Marcel Cronin and
Russell Armstrong also lost their first round matchup to a pair from Johns Hopkins, 3-0.
The quarterfinals and first round of consolations also began on Friday with all matchups completing the doubles point. In the quarterfinals, Karnibad and Zacchiotis took a 1-0 lead over Edik Pribitkin and Matt Cardano with a 7-6 (7-1) win the doubles match. Stevens and Abriola dropped their quarterfinal doubles point to fall behind, 1-0. In the consolation draw, both Mount duos took 1-0 leads by taking the doubles point.
The tournament continues tomorrow beginning at 9:00 a.m.
