EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 6, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's men's soccer head coach
Bryan Cunningham has announced the additions of
Jack Shearer (Aliquippa, Pa./Central Valley/Duquesne),
Dominique Giovannini (Trento, Italy/Liceo Antonio Rosmini/North Carolina Wesleyan), and
Nathan Stricker (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson/Pittsburgh) into the program for the upcoming 2021 season.
Jack Shearer (6-0, 182, Midfielder)
The graduate student comes to the Mount after starting his career at St. John's before transferring to Duquesne, where he played his junior and senior year. At St. John's he played in 35 matches, with 26 starts for the Red Storm. Shearer scored three goals and tallied four assists including scoring his first two collegiate goals in a 3-0 win against Xavier his freshman year. He was a unanimous selection to the Big East All-Freshman team and selected as a College Soccer News Freshman All-American. Shearer started against the Mountaineers in 2018 when St. John's came to Waldron Family Stadium, winning 2-1.
At Duquesne he played 24 matches, starting 22 of them. As a junior, he finished second on the team in points with 10 with a team-high five goals. Shearer scored his second career brace in a 4-0 win against Saint Bonaventure and scored the deciding goal in a 1-0 win over George Washington. In his shortened senior season, he scored one goal against Dayton and registered 19 shots with nine of those being on target.
Dominique Giovannini (5-9, 149, Defender/Midfielder)
Another graduate transfer, Giovannini comes to the Mount after playing four seasons at North Carolina Wesleyan. He earned ten goals and tallied seven assists throughout his career playing for the Battling Bishops. As a sophomore, he scored six goals and registered four assists, and then followed it with three goals and three assists to help N.C. Wesleyan win the 2019-2020 men's soccer USA South Conference and tournament championships in his junior year. Giovannini's senior season saw him get named to the First Team USA South Men's Soccer All-Conference and win the 2020-21 conference title.
Nathan Stricker (5-5, 135, Defender/Midfielder)
The sophomore is transferring from Pittsburgh, one of the top men's soccer programs last year after finishing third in the country. Stricker played for Wilson High School in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania and helped them win their conference twice (2018 & 2019). Playing for PA Classics Academy, he served as team captain.
