EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 18, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's soccer got the game-winning goal in the second minute and relied on defense to hold Quinnipiac to a shutout. The combination provided a 1-0 win Saturday at Waldron Family Stadium.
Graham Dougald got the goal, hitting the ball into the upper right corner only one minute and 32 seconds into the match. The senior received a pass from
Bobby Marsteller by way of
Luciano Schiaffini at the top of the box, blasting the attempt past Quinnipiac keeper Matthew Pisani. Dougald now leads the Mount with four goals on the season and Marsteller registered his first assist of the year. Schiaffini added his second assist.
From there, the defense made the strike stand up, keeping 11 Quinnipiac shots out of the net. Seven of the shots were on goal and all were turned aside by Mount keeper
Julian Marcos. The seven saves tied for the second most in a game for Marcos this season. The match is the team's second clean sheet of the year, joining a September 9 draw against Duquesne.
Dougald, Marsteller, and Marcos all left their mark on their Senior Day. They were honored before kickoff along with
Garrett Potts,
Jesse Boonstoppel,
Ethan Glaser, and
Fabian Perez.
With the victory, the Mountaineers are 2-6-5 overall and 2-3-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Quinnipiac drops to 4-8-1 and 2-4 in the MAAC. Mount St. Mary's is now one point out of a playoff position for the conference tournament.
Next Saturday (Oct. 25), the Mount takes to the road to battle Fairfield. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. from Lessing Field.
