Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 7, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse finished their 2021 season with a 20-6 against Wagner. Twelve different players scored for the Mount, while
Cormac Giblin,
Luke Frankeny, and
Brendan Doyle scored three goals to guide the offense. The Mountaineers outshot the Seahawks 53-34, with the Mount causing 22 turnovers, while Wagner forced only 12 turnovers. The Mount went 3-5 on extra-man advantages, with Wagner going 2-5.
Wagner was led by Stephen Dwyer's two goals and one assist and Tim Schmidt's one goal and two assists.
The Mount's
Dylan Furnback made 13 saves in net, while Wagner's Danny Brady made 15 saves.
The first quarter got off to a slow start, with the first goal being scored by Giblin with 7:11 remaining. Wagner waited towards the end of the first quarter to score their first goal on the man advantage to tie the game 1-1.
Connor McMahon scored his only goal to put the Mount up 2-1 with 1:25 remaining.
The second quarter is when the Mountaineers pull away from Wagner, outscoring them 7-1. The scoring was started by Doyle's first goal of the game to make it 3-1. Frankeny then scored two goals within a minute to extend the lead to four goals. Doyle scored his second goal of the quarter to make it 6-1 in favor of the Mount with 9:06 remaining. Wagner then scored their only goal of the quarter to make it 6-2. The Mount closed out the second quarter with three man-advantage goals to put the score at 9-2 going into the locker room.
The Mountaineers came out of halftime scoring two quicks goals to extend the lead to nine goals, with
Bryan McIntosh scoring his second goal of the season. Wagner's Jack Brady scored to make it 11-3, but Doyle completed his hat trick to put the lead back at nine with 7:54 remaining in the third quarter. Wagner scored with nine seconds left in the third quarter to make it 12-4.
In the fourth quarter, the Mount dominated the fourth quarter outscoring Wagner 8-2, with
Jared McMahon kicking it off with his only goal of the game within the first three minutes.
Jake D'Annunzio scored a behind-the-shoulder goal after
Brenden McCarthy set him up for his first goal of the year.
CJ Stowell, Giblin,
Justin Weick, and D'Annunzio each scored a goal give the Mount an 18-4 lead with 5:24 remaining. Wagner and the Mount traded goals late in the fourth quarter to keep the lead at 14 until Wagner scored their final goal of the game to make it 19-6.
Kyle DeCrispino scored his first goal of the year with 30 seconds to reach the final score of 20-6.
Sam Stephan went 12-out-of-16 (75%), and
Ethan Holobinko went 5-out-of-9 (55.5%) from the X.
