Mount Men’s Lacrosse held Scoreless in the Fourth Quarter as Hobart wins 13-9

Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 6, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse kept up with the preseason favorites, but Hobart was able to lock down the Mount's offense in the fourth quarter to secure a conference win. Sam Stephan, Brenden McCarthy, and Luke Frankeny score two goals each and Brendan Doyle tallied three assist for the Mountaineers. Hobart's Ryan Archer and Jason Knox combined for seven goals to lead the Statesmen to victory.

Mount's Dylan Furnback made 16 saves and Hobart's Kevin Holtby made 16 saves as well.

The game started off with a goal from Knox in the first three minutes to give Hobart an early lead. Hobart scored another goal to extend their lead to two. The Mount regrouped and went on a 3-0 run to make it 3-2. Doyle got the run started with a nice shot from the point to beat the goalkeeper. Stephan scored off the ensuing faceoff to tie the game up and score his first goal of the season. To cap off the run, McCarthy took a pass from Doyle on the left side and rifled a shot into the right corner to beat the goalkeeper. Knox scored his second goal of the day to tie the game at 3-3 to end the first quarter.

The second quarter started off slow until the Mount went on another 3-0 run in the middle of the quarter. Connor McMahon run past the defense and fired a rocket to beat the goalkeeper. Jake Krieger and McCarthy scored two goals about 30 seconds apart to give the Mountaineers a 6-3 lead. Knox scored his third goal of the game to make it 6-4. Stephan responded with a goal five seconds later after taking the faceoff and going right thought the heart of the defense to put the lead back at three. Hobart scored again to cut the Mount's lead to 7-5 going into half.

Hobart came out firing to start the third quarter and scored two goals to tie the game up at 7-7. Archer scored to give the Statesmen an 8-7 lead. Frankeny responded with a laser from the right side to beat the goalkeeper and tie the game back up. Archer scored again to give Hobart the lead back at 9-8. The Mount tied back up again with a man advantage goal from Frankeny. Archer scored his third goal of the quarter to give Hobart a 10-9 lead going into the fourth quarter.

After a back and forth fourth quarter to start off, Archer scored the first goal in the quarter with 6:12 remaining to extend Hobart's lead to two. Anthony Dattellas scored two late goals to put the game out of reach for the Mountaineers and give Hobart a 13-9 conference win.

Stephan went 8-out-21 (38.1%) from the X today.

The Mountaineers travel to Bryant for the next game on Saturday, March 13th at 12:00 p.m.
