EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 19, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo begins Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) play with four challenging games this weekend. Saturday sees the Mount travel to Bucknell followed by a Sunday trip to Loretto.
MOUNT UPDATE
The Mount heads into the weekend looking for its win, afternoon being swept in a pair of weekends at Villanova. Last Sunday, the team tied a season-best eight goals in a defeat to La Salle.
Emily Van Kerckhove recorded six goals and
Rebekka Williams fended off 39 shots.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
All three of the Mount's opponents rank in the top 25, with Michigan in the top 10, tied for seventh place in the poll. Bucknell stands at 23
rd and Saint Francis U is at No. 25.
The Wolverines stand at 9-4, including a sweep of their host invitational. Maddie O'Reilly leads the team with 34 points – 20 goals and 14 assists. Bucknell split with La Salle to start 1-1, and Saint Francis U comes in at 5-7.
The only team that has faced the Mount is SFU, and the Red Flash beat the Mountaineers 17-7.
LOOKING AHEAD
Mount St. Mary's begins the home portion of the season in April, including rematches against Bucknell and Saint Francis U.
