Mount Tennis Takes on Saint Francis University and Villanova this Weekend

MOUNT UPDATE

The Mount Saint Mary's women's and men's tennis team is looking to repeat what they did last weekend and beat Saint Francis again. The women's team has started the year 2-2 so far with a 7-0 win against La Salle to open the season, but lost to Saint Joseph's 5-2 the following day. The women's team then played LIU midweek and lost 7-0, but they bounced back last weekend and beat Saint Francis University 4-3 last Saturday. Riya Mathur was named NEC's Rookie of the Week for her performance last week against Saint Francis. She recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at flight #3 singles and partnered with Adriana Barney for a 6-0 triumph at flight #2 doubles to win their first dual match win of the year. The women's team will play in Ebensburg at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.

The men's team is 1-2 on the season after losing to La Salle 4-3 and Saint Joseph's 6-1 to start the season. The men opened up their NEC campaign by beating the Red Flash 4-3 as well on Saturday. Jackson Wood posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at #1 singles over Saint Francis he then teamed with Partha Sharma for a 6-3 victory at flight #1 double. Wood was named an NEC Prime Performer of the Week for his performance last weekend. The men's team will play in the Gorilla House Gym in Altoona.

SCOUTING THE RED FLASH

Saint Francis University tennis team have each played at least 12 games this season, with both teams playing against Carnegie Mellon University on Friday. The men' team is 1-11 so far with their only win coming against Thomas More 6-1. When they played the Mount, Daniel Vinces and Jordi Garcia picked up singles wins, then they both lead their doubles pair to win their matches. The women's team is 3-9 so far with wins against Mercyhurst, Western Illinois, and Thomas More. The women's team was able to win three singles matches with Dominique Yeo winning both of her matches against the Mount.    

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

The Villanova men's tennis team is 3-3 so far, with a game against Monmouth on Saturday. The Wildcats have wins against Lafayette, La Salle, and Coppin State. They are coming off a 7-0 loss against Temple on Wednesday, but last weekend they beat La Salle 6-1 with their only loss coming in the singles flight number one match.

The men's and women's team will play their next match against George Mason on Tuesday, March 23th in Fairfax, Virginia at a time to be announced later.
