Staten Island, N.Y. (February 22, 2020)—The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's indoor track and field teams each finished in second place at the 2020 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The Mount women's team had three gold medal performances to highlight the Mount today. Dylan LaNoue was named the men's Most Valuable Performer while Emily Lewis was named the women's Most Outstanding Rookie Performer.
LaNoue was named the Most Valuable Performer of the men's meet. LaNoue took home a pair of gold medals yesterday by winning the long jump and the high jump. LaNoue was also named the men's Most Outstanding Performer (Jumps). LaNoue is the first Mountaineer to be named the men's Most Outstanding Performer since Daniel Kinyua back in 1998.
Lewis was named the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer as well as the Most Outstanding Performer (Sprints). The Mount has won the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer in each of the past three seasons as Lewis joins teammates Kayla Barnes (2018) and Dominique Jeffery (2019) as winners of the award. This is the second consecutive season the Mount has had a winner of the Most Outstanding Performer (Sprints) as Barnes won the award last year.
Fairleigh Dickinson was the winner on the women's side with 109 points, followed by Mount St. Mary's (97), Long Island (96), Sacred Heart (78.5), Saint Francis U (64), Central Connecticut (63), Wagner (55), Bryant (42.5), Robert Morris (36), Merrimack (21) and St. Francis Brooklyn (1).
Wagner took home the men's title with 143.5 points, followed by Mount St. Mary's (115), Fairleigh Dickinson (96), Central Connecticut (88), Long Island (78), Saint Francis U (34.5), Merrimack (32), Bryant (32), Sacred Heart (30) and St. Francis Brooklyn (12).
The Mount's Lewis and Barnes each took home gold medals today while the 4x400m relay team also finished first.
Lewis broke the school record with a time of 8.68 seconds as the Mount had a 1-2-3 finish in the event. Najae Nickerson was second with a time of 8.78 seconds while Alexandra Lawson was third with a mark of 8.84 seconds. Rene Rosso also scored for the Mount in the 60m hurdles with a sixth-place finish (9.11).
Barnes captured the gold medal in the 200m dash with a time of 24.69 seconds. Teammates Lawson (7th, 25.31) and Jeffery (8th, 25.42) also scored in the 200 today.
The Mount's 4x400m relay team also finished in first place. The quartet of Chardane Logan, Chalys Caruth, Jeffery and Lewis had a winning time of 3:50.68.
Lewis was fourth in the 400m with a time of 26.54 second with Jeffery finishing in sixth (58.09). Lawson was seventh in the 60m dash (7.86) while Barnes was eighth (7.96).
The Mount had a trio of scorers in the high jump with Delaney McKnight finishing third (1.64m, 5' 4.5"), Kayla Hackett fifth (1.55m, 5' 2.25") and Chelsea Wright tied for seventh (1.53m, 5' 0.25"). Seun Sule was seventh in the triple jump (11.28m, 37' 0.25") while Emily Eckard was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.12m (49' 7.25") and Jesslyn Manni fifth in the event (15.03m, 49' 3.75"). The Mount's Distance Medley Relay team (Theresa Long, Nickerson, Tenia Jordan, Destiny Boone) also scored with a seventh place finish.
For the men's team, the Distance Medley Relay squad of Grant West, Khalil Reid, Brandon Briscoe and Isaac Kole finished in second with a time of 10:12.10 to earn Second Team All-NEC honors. Alex Devine added a second-place mark in the shot put (15.58m, 51' 1.5") while Kole was second in the mile run (4:11.57).
In the pole vault, Carter Nave finished second with a mark of 4.80m (15' 9") with teammate Cage Jones finishing third (4.40m, 14' 5.75"). Spencer Brown was fifth in the 60m hurdles (8.36), Todd Charles fifth in the 60m dash (6.98) and West sixth in the mile (4:15.53). Briscoe was seventh in the 800m (1:57.14) while Will Merritt was sixth in the 5,000m run (14:59.75). In the triple jump, Sean Fahey was sixth (14.37m, 47' 1.75") with D.J. Hamilton right behind in seventh (14.20m, 46' 7.25"). The 4x400m relay team of Zach Berg, Charles, Joshua Cella and Branden Roach finished sixth.
