Staten Island, N.Y. (February 21, 2020)—Dylan LaNoue won a pair of gold medals to spark the Mount St. Mary's men's and women's indoor track and field teams on the first day of the 2020 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The Mount men's team is in second place while the women's team finished the first day in 10th.
Wagner leads the men's standings with 41.5 points, followed by Mount St. Mary's (40), Fairleigh Dickinson (23), Sacred Heart (15), Central Connecticut (12), Merrimack (10), Long Island (9) and Saint Francis U (5.5).
Sacred Heart tops the women's standings with 32.5 points, followed by Fairleigh Dickinson (25), Saint Francis U (19), Robert Morris (16), Long Island (15), Merrimack (15), Bryant (10.5), Central Connecticut (10), Wagner (10) and Mount St. Mary's (3).
LaNoue captured gold in both the high jump and the long jump to lead the Mountaineers. The sophomore won the high jump with a leap of 2.02m and then won the long jump by one centimeter with his jump of 7.18m. Teammate Spencer Brown had a strong first day as well, finishing third in the long jump (6.97m) while advancing to the finals in the 60m hurdles.
Isaac Kole captured third place in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:21.83 while advancing to tomorrow's final in the mile run with a time of 4:23.35. Other point scorers for the Mount on Friday included Max Davis finishing sixth in the weight throw (15.32m), Mikhail Brown sixth in the high jump (1.93m), Drake Tews eighth in the high jump (1.88m) and Eric Okoye eighth in the long jump (8.78m).
A trio of Mountaineers advanced to the finals tomorrow in the 60m dash. Lewis Kungu (6.94), Justin Kimble (7.00) and Todd Charles (7.02) give the Mount three of the eight finalists in the event. Grant West will join Kole in the finals in the mile after a time of 4:23.44 in the prelims while Brandon Briscoe advanced to the finals in the 800m with a time of 1:56.56.
The women's team dominated the qualifying in the 60m hurdles, having four of the eight finalists in the event. Alexandra Lawson (8.89), Najae Nickerson (8.92), Rene Rosso (9.08) and Emily Lewis (9.08) all advanced to tomorrow's final. Kayla Barnes and Lawson each advanced to the finals in both the 60m dash and the 200m dash. Barnes had a time of 7.79 in the 60m prelims and a mark of 25.07 in the 200m. Lawson's time of 7.85 moved her to the finals in the 60m while she had a time of 25.16 to move to the finals in the 200m.
Dominque Jeffery qualified for the finals in both the 200m (25.44) and the 400m (58.08) while Lewis moved on to the finals in the 400m (57.08). In the 500m, both Chardane Logan (1:16.53) and Chalys Caruth (1:19.41) advanced to tomorrows final.
Seun Sule was the Mount's lone point scorer on day one with a sixth-place finish in the long jump (5.31m).
