Mount Men's Lacrosse Looks for Consecutive Wins as they Host UMBC on Saturday

MOUNT UPDATE
The Mount men's lacrosse team returns to Waldron Family Stadium for their 2020 home opener after a big program-win over the Towson Tigers last Saturday at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Matt Haggerty (4g) and Brenden McCarthy (3g) each recorded hat tricks in the win. In his first career game, Kelly Gouin made sure the Tigers knew his name registering a hat trick as well to lead the Mountaineers. Luke Frankeny added one goal and two assists while Dylan Furnback made 12 saves (7 - second half) in net to secure the Mountaineers' first ever victory over the Towson program. The Mount train will look to keep on rolling against another in-state foe, UMBC, at the fortress of Waldron Family Stadium.

SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS
The reigning 2019 America East champions, opened their 2020 campaign with a 14-8 loss at the hands of the #15-ranked Georgetown Hoyas. The Hoyas used a 9-2 run to break away from the Retrievers. Brett McIntyre, Steven Zichelli, and Ryan Frawley each scored twice while Tommy Linger made 13 saves in net. Senior defensemen Jason Brewster and Colin Kasner each had two caused turnovers for the Retrievers. UMBC struggled at the faceoff-X going 5-for-21 against the Hoyas, Danny Isaac went 3-for-9 and Alex Poma finished 2-for-12.

INSIDE THE SERIES
The Mountaineers currently sit at 1-19 all-time against the Retrievers in a series that dates back to April of 1989. The lone Mount win came the last time these two teams met at Waldron Family Stadium where the Mountaineers prevailed 16-7. Flashing back to last season, UMBC topped Mount St. Mary's 13-10 behind Ryan Frawley's and Josh Jordan's hat tricks. Sam Stephan had a strong performance at the X going 21-for-27 and picking up 18 groundballs. Jared McMahon paced the Mount on the offensive end with five points in the loss.
