Isaac Kole Breaks 34-Year Old School Record in 1,000m Run to Pace Mount Track This Weekend

February 1, 2020--The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's indoor track and field teams had a busy day with athletes competing at the Penn State National Open, the Navy Invitational and the Susquehanna Challenge on Saturday.  Isaac Kole provided the highlight of the day by breaking a 34-year old school record in the 1,000m run.

At Penn State, Kole led the Mount by winning the 1,000m with a time of 2:24.21, breaking the Mount's school record of 2:25.36 set by Charles Cheruiyot on February 24, 1986.  Other top performances at Penn State included a 10th place mark by Dylan LaNoue in the high jump (2.01m) while Spencer Brown tied for ninth in the long jump (7.01m).  Sean Fahey added a ninth-place mark in the triple jump (14.24m) with LaNoue right behind in 10th (14.18m).

The Mount competed against Navy, Virginia, Morgan State and Howard at the Navy Invitational.  Emily Lewis had one of the Mount's top performances, finishing third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.89 seconds, an ECAC qualifying mark.  John Wang took home first place in the 1,000m run (2:36.41) while Matthew Selba was third in the weight throw (16.07m).  Alex Devine was fourth in the shot put (14.31m) while Selba was fifth (14.18m).  Lewis Kungu had the fifth-fastest qualifying mark in the 60m dash (7.01) while D.J. Hamilton was fifth in the triple jump (12.95m).  For the women, Chardane Logan was fifth in the 500m (1:17.49), Destiny Boone fifth in the 1,000m, Chelsea Wright fifth in the high jump (1.55m) and Seun Suie fifth in the triple jump (11.23m).

At the Susquehanna Challenge, the Mount captured first in both the men's and women's 60m hurdles.  Karington Smith continued her strong indoor season by winning the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.96 seconds.  Joshua Cella took home first in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.85 seconds. Emily Eckard added a first place nod in the weight throw (14.04m) while Delaney McKnight was first in the high jump (1.62m).

Jameela Buchanan notched a pair of second-place finishes in the sprints with a time of 8.28 seconds in the 60m dash and 27.45 seconds in the 200m dash.  Tyler Howard was second in the 60m dash (7.11) while Matthew Sanchez was third in the 60m hurdles (9.03).  Rene Rosso was third in the women's 60m hurdles (9.45), Billy Cook second in the long jump (6.33m) and McKnight third in the long jump.

The Mount indoor track and field teams are back in action next weekend at the Akron Invitational.
