BACK IN ACTION
The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's indoor track and field teams return to the track at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational for the first time since December 6-7 at the Bison Opener and the River Hawks Opener. The invitational will take place in Annapolis, Maryland hosted by the United States Naval Academy. The multi-events begin on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The field events begin on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the running events beginning at 11:55 a.m.
TEAMS COMPETING
Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Navy, and Villanova will be the teams participating in the Wesley A. Brown Invitational this weekend.
FLASHING BACK
Last year at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational, Justin Kimble took home first place in the 60m dash to lead the Mount men's and women's indoor track teams. Kimble finished the 60m dash with a time of 6.91 seconds. Lewis Kungu finished fifth in the same race with a time of 6.95 seconds. Other respectable results came from Dylan LaNoue who finished sixth in the high jump (1.95m) while Colin Waitzman and Carter Nave each cleared 4.40m in the pole vault to finish in seventh and eighth place.
On the women's side, Kayla Barnes finished in sixth place in the 60m dash (7.89) and seventh in the 200m dash (25.33) for the Mount. Erin Jaskot had a fourth-place finish in the 3000m run with a time of 10:03.98 while Najae Nickerson was sixth in the 60m hurdles (8.99). Rachel Finn rounded out a strong showing for the Mountaineers at the invitational with a second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.85m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Mount men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the 2019-20 season with quality performances at both the Bucknell Bison Opener and the Susquehanna River Hawks Opener. At Susquehanna, Matthew Selba took home first place in the weight throw with a toss off 16.10m (52' 10"), which moves him into fourth on the Mount's all-time list. At Bucknell, Isaac Kole, Dylan LaNoue, Jonah Smith, and Emily Lewis all took home first-place finishes. The Mount teams will look to build off these performances this weekend.
PRESEASON POLLS
The Mount men's indoor track and field team was predicted fifth while the women's squad was picked third in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced on January 10th. Fairleigh Dickinson on the women's side and Saint Francis U on the men's side were selected as the favorites for the 2020 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field season.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The Mount Indoor Track and Field teams will next head to Fairfax, Virginia for the Patriot Games hosted by George Mason on January 24th and 25th.
