Box Score Washington, D.C. (August 16, 2018)—The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 3-0 loss at American on Thursday night. The game marked the coaching debut for Mount St. Mary's head coach Tori Krause.
American (1-0) carried play throughout the majority of the first half, outshooting the Mountaineers by an 8-0 margin. Mount goalkeeper Charlotte Elrod played well early, making three saves over a span of two minutes to keep the game scoreless. The Eagles, however, grabbed a 1-0 lead on a Kyanna Alleyne tally from distance. The Mount was able to generate four corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes, but were unable to generate a shot.
The Eagles added a pair of second-half tallies to close out the win. Jordan Tate scored in the 59th minute and Gabriela Maldonado made it 3-0 just over four minutes later. The Eagles held a 17-1 advantage in shots in the game.
Mount St. Mary's is back in action on Sunday, August 19, with a 6:00 p.m. matchup at Old Dominion.
