Myrtle Beach, S.C. (March 17, 2018)—The Mount St. Mary's outdoor track and field teams rounded out competition at the season-opening Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational today.
For the women's team, Erin Sample led the Mountaineers with a second-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 13.81m (45' 3.75") with Kayla Barnes finishing in third place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.97 seconds.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Chardane Logan, Barnes, Chalys Caruth and Isabel Ross finished third with a time of 3:55.35. The women's 4x100m relay team of Natalia Hinton, Barnes, Najae Nickerson and Mariah McLane finished in fifth place with a time of 47.79 seconds. Ross finished in eight place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.78.
For the men, Justin Kimble's second-place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 10.49 seconds led the way. Kimble improved on yesterday's time of 10.55 seconds, and he now stands second on the Mount's all-time list in the 100m dash behind record-holder Anthony Ambush, who ran 10.44 seconds in 1972.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Christopher Gabor, Kimble, Andrew Lapreziosa and D.J. Workcuff finished sixth with a time of 41.70 seconds. Will Merritt finished ninth in the 3,000m run with a mark of 8:49.83.
The Mountaineers return to the track next weekend at Monmouth.
