Mount Women's Soccer Falls to Lehigh, 3-0

Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (September 3, 2016) – Lehigh scored twice in the first half and added an insurance goal late in the second to top Mount St. Mary's University, 3-0, in a non-conference women's soccer tilt Saturday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.

Grace Correll got the Mountain Hawks on the board just over four minutes into the contest with her second goal of the season. Clare Severe sent a cross into the box and Lexi Chang got a head on it, flicking it back to Correll, who fired a low shot to beat the keeper and give Lehigh an early 1-0 advantage.

Lehigh added to its lead in the 32nd minute as Becca Sherry picked up a loose ball in the box and sent a short pass to Maggie Wadsworth, who found the back of the net from 10 yards out, extending the Mountain Hawks lead to 2-0.

Mount St. Mary's held Lehigh scoreless for the remainder of the first half and much of the second before Tori Pantaleo tallied her fourth of the season in the 85th minute to put Lehigh up 3-0 and essentially ice the game.

Goalie Sam Miller extended her shutout streak to four straight games for Lehigh, grabbing her third win of the season. Her counterpart, Maddy Bunnell, the reigning Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, took the loss in net despite making a pair of saves.

The Mount travels to Bucknell for its first road game of the season on Friday, September 9 at 7 p.m.
