Box Score Dover, Del. (Sept. 26, 2016) – Samantha Wanzor's 80th minute goal lifted Delaware State to a 1-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's University in non-conference women's soccer action Monday night at Alumni Stadium.
Wanzor found the back of the net off a corner kick for her first goal of the season, with Savannah Taylor picking up the assist on the play.
In her first career appearance, freshman goalie Sydni Surowiec held the Hornets scoreless for the opening 79-plus minutes before Wanzor's tally. Surowiec made four saves in the contest, yielding just the one goal in 90 minutes in net.
Michele Lammers made four saves in the shutout effort to collect her third win of the season for the Hornets.
The Mount outshot Delaware State by a 7-5 margin in the match, while the Hornets held a 5-1 advantage in corners.
The Mountaineers return to action for their Northeast Conference opener on October 2 at Central Connecticut, with action beginning at 1 p.m.
