Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (Sept. 16, 2016) – Chloe Cain registered three points on a goal and one assist as Mount St. Mary's University downed Temple, 2-0, in women's soccer action under the lights on Friday night at Waldron Family Stadium. The victory, which was the Mountaineers' first-ever against Temple, was their third of the season as they improved to 3-3-1, matching the team's win total from a season ago.
The Mount jumped out to an early lead in the contest on Cain's second goal of the season in the fourth minute. The junior won the loose ball in front of the net off Jenna West's corner kick and poked it past keeper Jordan Nash to give the Mount a 1-0 advantage.
Late in the first half, Temple's Sarah McGlinn nearly evened the contest at 1-1 as her shot from outside the 18-yard box rattles off the crossbar. The Mountaineer defense held the Owls off the board for the remainder of the period as they headed into the break with a one-goal advantage.
In the 60th minute, Shayna Macfarlane sent a cross into the box off a set piece, finding Kristen Morawski near the six-yard box. Morawski's header glanced off the crossbar and out of bounds as the score held at 1-0.
The Mount got some insurance late in the contest as a counter attack led to Jaylyn Chandler's second goal of the campaign. Cain found an open Chandler with a pass across the box, and Chandler beat the keeper to ice the 2-0 Mount victory.
Maddy Bunnell tied her season-high with eight saves in the contest, collecting her third win of the season, while Nash made one save in the losing effort for Temple.
The Mount remains in Emmitsburg for a matchup with Navy on Sunday, September 18th on 1 p.m.
