Mount St. Mary's Women's Soccer Tops VMI, 2-1

Lexington, Va. (Sept. 11, 2016) – Jaylyn Chandler scored her first career goal and Jenna West tallied the game winner as the Mount St. Mary's University women's soccer team topped VMI, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Mount improves to 2-3-1 on the year.

The Keydets grabbed a 1-0 in the 18th minute of play on Amy Horney's first goal of the season. Horney finished a header off a cross from Emma Quirk on a corner kick to give VMI a one-goal advantage.

The Mount responded in the 53rd minute as Chandler corralled a rebound off the crossbar and found the back of the net to even the contest at 1-1. The tally for Chandler was her first career goal and third point of the 2016 campaign.

Just over two minutes later, Mount St. Mary's jumped in front on West's team-leading second goal of the season. The sophomore drilled a free kick from around 30 yards out into the side netting to give the Mountaineers a 2-1 advantage.

Mount St. Mary's held the Keydets off the board in the remaining 35 minutes of play to secure its second victory of the season.

Maddy Bunnell made a season-high eight saves in net to collect the victory for the Mount, while her counterpart, Ceci Keppeler took the loss in a two-save effort.

The Mount returns home to face Temple on Friday, September 16 at Waldron Family Stadium.
