Christopher Gabor Wins Decathlon, Kelly Yanucil the Javelin, to Pace Mount Track at ECAC/IC4A Championships

RESULTS

May 14, 2016—Christopher Gabor won the decathlon while Kelly Yanucil took first place in the javelin to pace the Mount St. Mary's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams at the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Saturday.

Gabor edged New Hampshire's Daniel Johnson by 33 points to capture the gold medal in the decathlon.  On Friday, he posted 3,557 points, scoring his best effort in the first event of the day, the 110m dash (11.10, 838 points).  On Saturday, he opened with a time of 16.30 seconds in the 110m hurdles for 699 points.  He followed with a throw of 34.97 in the discus for 563 points and clearing 4.10m in the pole vault for 645 points.  After a throw of 55.81m in the javelin for 675 points, Gabor closed with 509 points in the 1500m to seal the win.

Yanucil, the Northeast Conference champion in the javelin, had a throw of 49.22m (161' 6") to take home the gold medal.  She topped Monmouth's Stephanie Roones by 3.97m for the top spot in the meet.

D.J. Workcuff earned All-East honors in the long jump, finishing eighth with a leap of 6.82m (22' 4.5").  He also finished 29th in the 200m dash with a time of 22.37 seconds.

Julian Woods advanced to the semifinals in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.81 seconds.  He then finished in 11th place in the semifinals with a time of 14.64 seconds. 

Brenden Chavis finished in 16th place in the hammer throw with a mark of 54.29m (178' 1") while teammate Chase Boyle did not record a mark after fouling on all three of his attempts.  Josh Poole finished 34th in the 400m dash with a time of 49.76 seconds.

Helena Leyrer advanced to the semifinals in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.54 seconds.  In the semifinals, she was edged out by two-thousandths of a second for the final qualifying spot in the final round.  Leyrer had a time of 14.310 in the semifinal round, just behind Albany's Chibugo Ike, who had a time of 14.308.

Natalia Hinton finished 12th with a mark of 5.57m (18' 3.25") in the long jump while the women's 4x400 relay team of Mariah McLane, Leyrer, Clarke Hooper and Isabel Ross finished 17th with a time of 3:54.80.

Brian Sagendorf finished 17th in the javelin with a mark of 51.69m (169' 7").
