Mount St. Mary's Track and Field Heads to George Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday

The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's track and field teams are headed to the George Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday. 

MOUNT UPDATE:  The Mount St. Mary's University men's and women's track and field teams had a good showing at the Colonial Relays last week.  On Friday, Kelly Yanucil took home first place honors in the championship section of the javelin with a throw of 48.38m.  Leyrer advanced to the finals in the 100m hurdles in the university section, posting the fifth-best time in the qualifying rounds (14.29).  Moriah Fitzgerald placed eighth in the championship section of the pole vault with a mark of 3.40m.  Natalia Hinton was fifth in the championship long jump with a leap of 5.66m. Genamarie McCant ninth in the university section of the 400m with a time of 56.41 seconds.

For the men, Chase Boyle finished in fifth in the championship section of the hammer throw (54.09m) while Brenden Chavis was seventh with a PR of 51.47m.  Brian Sagendorf had a PR of 60.85m to finish in third place in the championship section of the javelin.  DJ Workcuff finished 10th in the 100m dash with an IC4A qualifying time of 21.67 seconds.  Josh Poole had a solid time of 47.55 seconds to place fifth in the 400m dash.    Chris Eltringham finished in fifth in the university section of the 800m run with a time of 1:55.21.

Julian Woods placed ninth in the 110m hurdles (14.83) and 12th in the 400m hurdles (54.18).  Carlos Castello's mark of 1.89m in the university section of the high jump was good for sixth place while his mark of 6.55m in the university section of the long jump was eighth.  Boyle added a ninth place finish in the university shot put with a mark of 14.11m.

Leyrer finished in third place in the 100m hurdles finals on Saturday with a time of 14.60 seconds while Chavis was third in the university discus with a mark of 40.09m.

YANUCIL HAS TOP MARK:  Junior Kelly Yanucil earned NEC Field Athlete of the Week honors the first week of the season after her throw of 48.92m (160' 6") in the javelin at hte Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational at Coastal Carolina.  Yanucil's throw is the top mark in the NEC this season, and ranks 22nd in the nation

SAGENDORF NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Freshman Brian Sagendorf was been named the Northeast Conference Men's Track and Field Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.  Sagendorf finished in third place in the javelin at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va., this past weekend.  His throw of 60.85m (199' 8") is an IC4A qualifying mark, and also leads the NEC this season.  He is 20th on the IC4A performance list, while his mark is also among the top 55 in the NCAA East Region.

NEC LEADERS:  In addition to Yanucil and Sagendorf in the javelin, the Mount has several other athletes leading the NEC performance lists this year.  Chase Boyle has the top mark in the hammer throw, Moriah Fitzgerald leads the pole vault, and Natalia Hinton tops the long jump list.
